Barbera D'Alba Villa Casetta 2015 £18.50
Barbera d’Alba Villa Casetta 2015 is a charming red wine from Piedmont, Italy, made with the classic Barbera grape. Expect an intense ruby red colour and a nose that’s notably lifted for Barbera—ripe fruit first, then a graceful, well-judged warmth that stays composed rather than aggressive. It’s a wine that feels welcoming from the first sip, with generous character and an easygoing elegance that suits both relaxed evenings and well-planned dining.
On the palate, the fruit remains bright and fruit-forward, supported by smooth, refined tannins that carry through to a tidy, satisfying finish. With its balanced structure and comforting freshness, this 2015 vintage pairs beautifully with Italian favourites such as pasta with ragù, roast chicken, or mushroom-based dishes. Choose it as a reliable table wine or to explore the depth of Piedmont Barbera—an ideal addition to your next mixed case from the range.

Italy
The ancient Greeks called Italy "Oenotria" meaning wine land and its inhabitants are today as passionate about their wines as ever. Hand in hand with this passion goes an intense commitment to local styles and local grape varietes, of which there are said to be more than 500. Yes 500 different varieties! As a result, Italy produces a wider, more fascinating range of individual, characterful wines than anywhere else in the world. And over the last two decades in particular, Italy's very finest wines have improved out of sight and their star is still on the rise. If anyone is going to truly challenge the famous names of France for supremacy in the battle for the hearts and minds of wine collectors the world over, it's the Italians. Bordeaux, Burgundy and Rhone look out. Here comes Tuscany, Piedmont and Puglia!
Piedmont
Piedmont (Piemonte) enjoys an unrivalled seat among the world's very finest wine regions. Located in northwest Italy it is the home of more DOCG wines than any other Italian region.
With more DOCGs and DOCs than any other Italian region, and about 40 percent of its wine produced at DOC/G level, Piedmont is challenged only by Veneto and Tuscany for the top spot among Italian wine regions – though the rapid progress made by other Italian wine regions means all three must avoid complacency.
