Jean Perrier et Fils Roussette de Savoie Fleur Altesse 2024 £19.50
Jean Perrier et Fils Roussette de Savoie Fleur Altesse 2024 is a beautifully lifted white wine from the mountainous heart of Savoie, France. Made from Altesse, it pours a pale yellow with gentle green reflections. Expect an inviting nose of white fruit, ripe pear and a delicate floral note of violet, creating a refreshing first impression that feels both elegant and welcoming. Ideal for those who love aromatic whites with a distinctive regional character, this is a wine that rewards a calm, unhurried sip.
On the palate, the flavour profile opens with crisp, juicy fruit and a subtle mineral backbone, delivering a lovely sense of depth and balance. The texture is smooth and satisfying, with a clean, mouth-watering finish that makes it perfect for pairing at the table or enjoying as an aperitif. Choose this Roussette de Savoie for its refined expression of Altesse and its ability to elevate everything from light starters to seafood, seasonal salads and gentle cheeses.

France
Few would argue that France is the country that long ago set the standards by which wine is judged. There are of course exceptions; Germany's Rieslings, Spain's Sherry and Portugal's Port are examples of non-French wines that are universally accepted as models to be admired and emulated. But no other country in the world can boast anything like France's influence over the wine world's now well-established benchmarks. The wine styles produced in Champagne, Alsace, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Loire and the Rhone have become targets that countless winegrowers around the world aim at, in the first instance by planting the same grape varieties. If you still have a bit of exploring to do before you can say you know well the world of wine, there can be no better place to start (or finish!) than France.
Savoie
Savoie is a wine region in the far east of France, in the mountainous areas just south of Lac Leman (Lake Geneva) and the border with Switzerland.
Although Savoie is dominated by white wines, it does have a standout red variety: Mondeuse. This is used to produce deeply-coloured, peppery wines with a trademark bitterness. Gamay and Pinot Noir are also employed, mostly in varietal wines, and are lighter in style than when they are used in their native Beaujolais and Burgundy.
