Airfield Estates Bombshell Red 2020 £26.50
Airfield Estates Bombshell Red 2020 is a bold Washington red wine crafted in the Yakima Valley, blending Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache, Malbec and Syrah/Shiraz for a wonderfully layered pour. Expect an inviting first impression of dark berries and juicy plum, followed by warm notes that feel like toasted oak and a subtle cocoa twist. It’s richly expressive without being heavy, making it ideal for relaxed evenings or dinner-table sharing.
On the palate, this red blend delivers lingering flavours of blackberry compote, ripe dark fruit and gentle spice, finishing with a smooth, confident edge. The 2020 vintage shows real balance, with oak texture that elevates the fruit rather than covering it. If you enjoy American reds with depth, character and a modern style, this bottle is made to become a firm favourite—add it to your collection and discover why Airfield Estates earns loyal fans.

USA
The United States has confidently come of age as one of the world's top wine-producing nations. Its reputation may be founded on the global fame of Napa and Sonoma, but the U.S. is home to countless lesser-known wine regions producing world-class wines (obvious examples include Oregon's Willamette Valley and the New York Finger Lakes). Wine has been made in The States for around 400 years, but it is only in the last 40 that American wine really began to earn respect on a global scale. The U.S. is now the world's fourth-biggest wine-producing nation (behind France, Italy and Spain) and produces roughly 18.5 million hectoliters each year.
Washington
The Cascade Mountains create a rain shadow effect, blocking the wet conditions on the other side from the Pacific Ocean. The Columbia, Walla Walla, Snake and Yakima rivers provide much-needed irrigation, air circulation and cooling conditions. Ice Age floods left behind layers of sandy, volcanic soils which favor grape-growing and repel phylloxera (along with the cold winters). This means grapes are grown from single root stocks instead of the hybrids found in most of the world to prevent the spread of Phylloxera. Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling and Chardonnay are the most popular varietals cultivated. These benefit from a long growing season that promotes proper phenolic balance in the grapes.
