Chenin Blanc
Chenin Blanc is a versatile white grape that’s beloved for its expressive character and food friendly style. Often associated with the Loire Valley, it can show anything from crisp, mineral driven freshness to richer, honeyed flavours, depending on where it’s grown and how it’s made.
One of the great joys of Chenin Blanc is how well it balances acidity with fruit. You’ll commonly find notes of apple, pear and quince, with hints of citrus zest. As wines mature, they may develop deeper tones such as baked fruit, dried flowers and gentle spice.
Dry versions are wonderful for everyday drinking, especially with lighter dishes like salads, seafood and roast chicken. If you come across a sweeter style, it can work beautifully with desserts and more flavoursome meals, thanks to the grape’s naturally lively acidity. Look out for winemaking cues such as “demi-sec” or “off-dry” for a touch of sweetness, or “sec” when you want something cleaner and sharper.
Whether you prefer zesty and refreshing or softly rounded and aromatic, Chenin Blanc offers plenty of variety within one grape, making it a fantastic choice to explore.
