Alsace
Alsace is a distinctive wine region in north east France, famed for its picturesque vineyards that cling to the hillsides along the Rhine. The area’s cool, continental climate and long hours of sunshine help grapes develop flavour while keeping a refreshing, natural lift. One of the most noticeable characteristics of Alsace wines is the variety of aromatic grapes, with Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Pinot Gris and Muscat often leading the way.
Because many vineyards are planted on slopes with good drainage, the results can be wonderfully expressive, showing everything from crisp citrus and green apple notes to richer spice and floral aromas. Traditional winemaking also plays a part, with some producers emphasising dry, clean styles, while others embrace riper fruit and a hint of sweetness.
Alsace is also a great choice if you enjoy food friendly pairings. Lighter whites work well with salads, seafood and creamy starters, while the spicier, more aromatic styles are excellent alongside Thai dishes, roasted poultry and strong cheeses. If you’re building a mixed case, Alsace brings variety and character in every bottle.
